When we started traveling extensively in 2000, we discovered Route 441 through Georgia.  But now it is mostly four-lane highway, so we took “old 441”  and other back roads first to Dublin and then on to Florida.

We stopped at Hillside Orchards, one of our favorite places, to buy FROG jam.  We rejected TOE jam in favor of more traditional choices.  FROG stands for fig, raspberry, orange and ginger.  We’ve had it before, and it is quite good.  TOE is tangerine, orange and elderberry.  They also had apple cider flavored donuts fresh from the oven – the very best way to have a donut.

In Dublin, we ate “according to USA Today, Georgia’s best pizza.”  We hope it wasn’t; it was done in a beautiful huge brick oven in the back of a very interesting old building, but it was burnt at the edges.

Getting up the next day, I felt rested and great and said I would just drive until I was tired.  We got home late that afternoon.

We have put away the cameras and laptop for a couple of months but are already thinking about our next travels.  Hope we all can enjoy them then.  Thanks for reading along.

About ralietravels

Ray and Alie (Ralie) are a retired couple who love to travel. Even during our working years, we squeezed a trip in whenever we could, often when we had to stretch the budget to do so. We have been fortunate to vacation in all 50 states, all the provinces of Canada and one territory and a little more than 50 countries. We like to drive, but we particularly love to travel back roads to find unusual sights, people, and experiences.
